Measure the wall width and leave at least 50 mm each side of the vanity. Allow about 750 mm of clear floor in front so the drawers open and you can stand comfortably. Check where the waste and water pipes come out of the wall.

Common questions

How deep is a standard vanity?

About 460 mm. Slim vanities from about 360 mm suit narrow rooms.

What height should a vanity be?

The top usually sits 850–900 mm above the floor. Above-counter basins add 120–150 mm.

Can a 1200 mm vanity have two basins?

Yes, but it is tight. 1500 mm gives each person more room.
